REFLECTIONS IN A MEXICAN MIRROR

I don’t like to paint for themed art shows. I always wind up with a painting no one wants! This was painted for a show that we held in a Mexican Restaurant (I don’t like to show in Restaurants either). The owner of that restaurant had a “thing” for Frida Kahlo and all the walls were covered with paintings that imitated her style and subject matter, mostly of her. We were given the project of painting a Mexican themed painting about Mexican Independence and this was my offering. The owner of the restaurant expressed some displeasure at my offering and my snippy retort was “would you have rather had paintings of people shooting each other?”
