Our cruising days started in 1979 when we commissioned our new Camper and Nicholson 31-foot sloop in Newport, Rhode Island. We had no idea where our adventure would take us, and as it turned out we liked travel in the Inland Waterway of the East Coast. Our plans to go to the Bahamas and Islands were canceled due to some horrific stories from cruising sailors who ran into some scary episodes with drugs and pirates.
Endymion is the title of a John Keats poem that opens with this well known sentiment:
A thing of beauty is a joy forever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
